In-chair whitening involves the application of a whitening product during a dental appointment. It may be considered for some patients following a dental assessment.

How is in-chair whitening different from over-the-counter options?
Whitening toothpastes, strips, pens and other over-the-counter products are available without a dental consultation. Their suitability, active ingredients and results can vary.
In-chair whitening is provided under dental supervision. Before treatment, we assess your teeth and gums, discuss whether whitening is appropriate and explain how existing crowns, veneers and fillings may affect the colour match.
Whitening products lighten natural tooth structure. They do not change the colour of crowns, veneers, fillings or other restorations.
Can whitening cause sensitivity?
Yes. Tooth sensitivity and gum irritation can occur during whitening treatment and are often temporary. The degree of sensitivity varies between individuals.
Careful use of whitening products and protection of the gums are important. We will discuss what to expect, provide instructions for your treatment plan and advise what to do if sensitivity or irritation occurs.
