Teeth Whitening

If your problem is yellow but perfectly shaped teeth, your lifestyle and the aging process can stain and darken your teeth. Many things we do on a regular basis can contribute to stained teeth, such as drinking coffee, tea, cola and red wine or smoking. Also, during routine chewing, dentin remains intact while millions of micro-cracks occur in the enamel. It is these cracks, as well as the spaces between the crystalline enamel rods, that gradually fill up with stains and debris. As a result, the teeth eventually develop a dull, lack luster appearance. Tooth teeth whitening can get your smile looking its best. Non-professional procedures and clinically unproven tooth teeth whitening tips can often lead to unsatisfactory results, you should look for a tooth teeth whitening procedure that is:

  • Fast and convenient
  • Long-lasting
  • Low sensitivity
  • Proven to be safe and effective
  • Performed by a Dental Professional

At our practice we use the KOR teeth whitening system. This is an example of a patient who had the treatment done.

Tooth Teeth Whitening

Pre-treatment, he had brown stained teeth and the crowns were a lighter colour than the teeth. NB, the crowns will not change colour with tooth teeth whitening and will act as the contrast.

In surg Tooth Teeth Whitening

This is after the KOR whitening treatment. The crowns have not changed colour but the teeth have.

Completed Tooth Teeth Whitening

We then proceeded to replace the yellow crowns, with crowns that match his natural teeth better.

The different tooth teeth whitening treatments available and how they compare to each other.

Custom trays with take home kits

There are many qualities of “at home” products around the marketplace. Generally, the ones that dentists provide are of a higher concentration and more effective than the supermarket or pharmacy ranges simply because dentists can fabricate the custom made trays more precisely to seal against leakage around the gums. The fit of the trays make a huge difference to the whitening effectiveness, as the concentration of the tooth teeth whitening gel. For effective custom trays, check that they seal tightly around the neck of each tooth, so that no gel can escape or spill onto the gums. The better trays also have a small reservoir on the face of each tooth to hold more effective amounts of material for a better result. Why custom made trays are so important is that those that are not specially moulded and sealed will allow bleaching material to escape to the gum tissue and may cause sensitivity and burning of the gums. This process takes 7-14 days resulting in about 6 shades whiter teeth.

In-surgery Laser or Zoom whitening

For those who do not like to wear trays have a limited time or want a more instantaneous result can opt for the in-surgery procedure. In just one visit, you can get instantly whiter teeth. Significant color change in a short period of time is the major benefit of in- office tooth teeth whitening. This protocol involves the carefully controlled use of a relatively high- concentration peroxide gel, applied to the teeth by the dentist or trained technician after the gums have been protected with a paint-on rubber dam. Generally, the peroxide remains on the teeth for 20 minute intervals that add up to an hour (at most) resulting in about 8 shades whiter teeth.

Kor WHITENING

The most effective tooth teeth whitening process available today. Everyone’s teeth have a natural biological limit to how white they can get. Historically, once you reached this limit, no amount of additional tooth teeth whitening would lighten your teeth further. However, this Kor Whitening system will extend this previous limit and allow significantly more whitening. It is a combination of in office and at home treatment. It is highly effective and gradual so you can stop the process when you are satisfied with the results.

Tooth Teeth Whitening Strips or Paint-on Gel

Takes 7-30 days resulting in 3-4 shades whiter teeth.

Whitening Toothpaste

Takes 1 month or more resulting in 1-2 shades lighter teeth. Results fade if you stop using the toothpaste and only works on superficial stains.

Internal bleaching procedures

Internal bleaching procedures are performed on devitalized teeth that have undergone endodontic therapy ( “Root Canal”) but are discolored due to internal staining of the tooth structure by blood and other fluids that leaked in. Unlike external bleaching, which brightens teeth from the outside in, internal bleaching brightens teeth from the inside out. Bleaching the tooth internally involves drilling a hole to the pulp chamber, cleaning, sealing, and filling the root canal with a rubber-like substance, and placing a peroxide gel into the pulp chamber so the gel can work directly inside the tooth on the dentin layer. In this variation of whitening the peroxide is sealed within the tooth over a period of some days and replaced as needed, the so called “walking bleach” technique.
